Uncle Matt's SlowClap Tour has sped up to Uncle Matt's Light-Yet-Polite Clap Tour. For those who want a little more detail on my route,
here's the Google Map.
I made it down the Cassiar (CASS-ee-are) Highway. Definitely the road less traveled: half of it doesn't even have lane striping. Very picturesque, very scenic. Alas, I think the most scenic stretches of highway are far behind me.
I'm finally burning through some of the podcasts i've built up over the last year or so. What i've learned:
- If Charles Manson were paroled to anywhere other than San Francisco, he likely doesn't get to the level of infamy he has today
- George Carlin did some material that's just lousy, in addition to his good stuff
- I've missed many good movies
- There are some really good 'undiscovered' comedians out there
- The NAACP led some intriguing legal battles to stop the death penalty
- There's a script from the mid-1990s that revived The Muppet Show. The opening copies the opening to Jackass. And the script is effing hilarious.
I've also just had some time to let my mind go. I get focused on driving, let my mind wander with the turns, and next thing I know i'm 30 minutes into a new podcast.

Teslin, a small Tlingit town on - wait for it - Teslin Lake, lit up in the
evening. In the foreground: the scariest damn bridge i've ever driven across. |
Totem Poles at Teslin. Possibly my favorite piece of
"art." I put art in quotes because I understand that they are
more than just art, they carry special meaning. There are
five at the Teslin Tlingit Cultural Center, representing the
five clans: Kukhhittan (Raven), Ishkitan (Frog), Yanyeidi
(Wolf), Deshitan (Beaver), and Dakhlawedi (Eagle). |

Whitehorse has an aviation museum with a DC-3 weather vane. Winds
out of the west on this day.
| Many lakes along my route. Many, many, lakes. Minnesota ain't got nuthin' on this shit. |
| Some lakes have what I think are very cool reflective capabilities. |
| A quirk of geography: the Alaska Highway zig-zags back and forth into Yukon Territory and British Columbia about seven times. So here, I enter BC... |
| ...then leave BC... |
| ...then go back into BC... |
| ...and back into Yukon Territory, and back and forth... |
| Rancheria Falls |
| Watson Lake, about 20 kilometers east of the north end of the Cassiar Highway, has a sign forest. |
| Many signs. |
| Really, many signs. |
| I didn't look at every single sign, but this was the closest to a connection to me. |
At the Northern Lights Center. I love that they left Pluto on. ***Please note: nowhere does it say anything about 'planets.' |

| Hey, I do have a degree in Geography... |
| The car got a little, how shall I put it, filthy. |
Andi, this is for you. I'm fairly certain they're power lines. I am totally certain they're ugly as hell. Perhaps, if you're not doing anything for the next while, and want to do some consulting work... |
There was a wildfire somewhere along the Cassiar Highway, giving a not unpleasant aroma to the air, and a quality that I found difficult to photograph. |
